Cool-girl Halloween costumes

Finally finally FINALLY it’s October! After 11 months of saying ‘next year for Halloween’, we’re at last allowed to start planning our Halloween costumes for real. But what if you’ve forgotten all your best ideas? Well fear not, the Market Place team have your back with our ultimate guide to the 10 best cool girl costumes this Halloween.

Harley Quinn, Suicide Squad

We’re calling this one as THE Halloween costume for 2016. If you can think of a better excuse to crack out the hot pants, fishnets, red lippy and pink ‘n’ blue hair dye, then you must be some kind of real life evil genius. Bonus points if you can find a Jared to play your Joker…

Wednesday Addams, The Addams Family

Channel your goth kid vibes with a classic Wednesday Addams get-up. We only wish we were this cool at her age.

Plus: added bonus of the LBD-and-oversized-collar combo being totally wearable after Halloween…

Morticia Addams, The Addams Family

You’re looking for something a little more glam than Wednesday? Come to momma. A long, floor skimming black dress will have you turning heads for all the right reasons. Pointed, talon-like nails give this look a dangerous edge.

Dothraki Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones

Ok, so this isn’t a traditional Halloween look – but what’s scarier than the mother of dragons herself? Grab yourself an ice blonde wig and an olive-green crop top and channel that inner Queen…

Alex and the Droogs, A Clockwork Orange

This one might seem a little strange, but bear with us for a second – this works amazingly for a small group. All you need is a white/cream shirt or blouse, some white/cream trousers, a black bowler hat, some braces and a bit of creative eye make-up – and you’ve got yourself a freaky Halloween squad that’s hot to trot!

Mia, Pulp Fiction

Does it get cooler than Mia? That crisp white blouse, that harsh black bob, that attitude. C’est la vie say the old folks…

Veronica Sawyer, Heathers

Come with us into the world of dark cult 90s movies… Heathers is the ultimate cult teen flick. We’ve got gangs of mean girls, an awkward sort-of-heroine, and lots of dark, dark humour. Plus Christian Slater! Ah, 90s Christian Slater… Anyway. If you fancy going for a slightly offbeat, reasonably obscure costume, Veronica is your girl. A bit preppy, a bit goth, a lot 90s.  Accessorise with a handsome man in a leather jacket (or a group of girls in power jackets) and you’re good to go!

Jareth the Goblin King, Labyrinth

Not sure that this needs any further explanation but really, it’s just the best Halloween costume ever. Hack into an 80s mullet wig, chuck on some of the most fun make-up you’ll ever get to put on, and don that sequin jacket. Plus what’s that you say? Victoriana blouses are in? Told ya: best costume ever.

All together now: “Dance magic dance…”

Romy and Michelle, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion

Fine, whatever, this is not in any way scary. But if you’re dressing up, you might as well be something fun, right? And maybe you could be, we don’t know, zombie Romy and Michelle or something?

Anyway, just pour yourself into a sparkling mini dress, accessorise with some blingy chokers and fluffy bits, and get your hair into a half-up-half-down do – and voila! You’re set to be the most popular pair at the reunion – oops – we mean Halloween party!

Margo Tenenbaum, The Royal Tenenbaums

Let’s face it: if you have a coat in any way resembling this one, you pretty much have a legal obligation to go as Margo Tenenbaum. Just add the bob and eyeliner and ta-daaa! You’re automatically the coolest person at the party. And yes, we have given up any pretence of finding you scary outfits, but come on – just look at her.
