The new season is an exciting time for restaurants, offering the opportunity to experiment with local, seasonal produce and brand new recipes. We catch up with Company Director, Jackie Muller, to find out all about what it takes to run Mezzo…
What is your job role?
I am the Company Director.
What is Mezzo?
Mezzo is a contemporary cafe/restaurant, offering full waitress service (unusual nowadays) and prepare every meal to order in our kitchen. We have an extensive menu, plus specials which change regularly, and we hold a liquor license – customers can order wine, prosecco, cocktails, beer and cider.
We have been established as a company since 1997 and Mezzo opened in September 2008. We have always offered an outside catering service as well, which provides buffets to many local businesses and to families for celebrations, get-togethers and all sorts of other events.
What is your favourite meal or drink?
My favourite is our chicken and mozzarella Panini which also has two of my favourite ingredients in it – pesto and sliced vine ripened tomato – yum! I’ll have it with a cup of soup (which changes daily) and if I’m still hungry, I will treat myself to a fruit scone with jam and freshly whipped cream. I like my daily cappuccino at around 10am.
What is your typical day like?
I rise at 6.30am most days and encourage my teenage sons to get out of bed & go to college! I usually do a few jobs around the house before leaving at 8am to call at Barrons of Beef on Chorley Old Road to collect our fresh meat. Then I drive to Joseph Athertons near the Valley to pick up our fresh veg, salad and fruit. I may or may not go to a supermarket to top up on supplies for the day’s buffets.
What is the most fun part of your job?
The people – we have a great team in Mezzo and we are lucky that we all get on really well and have the same sense of humour. At the same time, we notice the small things and get satisfaction from doing our jobs well. We often go out and socialise together after work and we also have some gorgeous customers, many of whom we have known for a long time and have become friends with. The same goes for the Market Place staff, we know all the security guards, maintenance team, cleaners, office staff, management and staff from other shops, and we all look out for each other… It’s a real community in here. Because I’ve owned the business for almost 20 years, my children have grown up in here and the Market Place has become a huge and important part of my life.
Is there anything you dislike?
Not being busy!
Will there be any offers/promotions available in the coming weeks?
Filter coffee/tea only £1.20!!!
All day/any day cake offer £3.65:

We will soon be offering cinema goers a 20% discount on food (with a valid ticket and cinema loyalty card) and students will be able to claim 10% off food with a valid NUS card.
We have other promotions in the pipeline which I am putting together with Market Place to run in line with Little Rascals.
