This week we meet Danielle Bardsley, store manager at Pep & Co to get the lowdown on what it takes to work it retail…
Q1. How did you get into retail?
By chance! I was out shopping and ended up helping a girl in the fitting rooms to choose an outfit for herself. The manager of the store offered me a job there and then…..the rest is history.
Q2. What are your day to day responsibilities?
Basically making sure the store is set up for success – motivating my team to drive sales and provide a high level of customer service. Each day there are different tasks to be completed to meet business needs. On Sunday’s we focus on setting up the store for the week ahead – especially after a busy Saturday. While on Monday we provide and receive trade updates through conference calls and Tuesdays & Thursdays are delivery days so very stock – focussed. No two days are ever the same.
Q3. What excites you most about your job?
It’s a fast paced, challenging environment which is constantly changing.
Q4. What do you dislike about your job?
The minority of customers who make a mess while they shop…
Q5. What do you do after work?
I enjoy a good run with my dogs, go to the gym or catch up with friends.
Q6. Why do you think customers love Pep & Co?
I think it’s because provide good quality clothing in local communities – that families want and need, at prices that won’t break the bank.
Q7.What’s your favourite item so far in the new season collection?
The lace high neck top – an autumn winter must have.
Q8. What is the best thing about shopping at Market Place?
It has everything you need under one roof – whether you want to shop, eat or have a family day out.
Q9. What do you think a career in retail has to offer?
A challenging but rewarding and fun career where no two days are the same!!
