Meet the Manager – Jonathon Sangster, General Manager, Amazonia

At Market Place we like to get to know the people that lead the teams that make our stores, restaurants and leisure attractions the success they are, and for you to get to know them too.

So this week we’ve been catching up with Jonathon Sangster at Amazonia – our indoor adventure play centre that was recently Highly Commended at the Raring2Go Awards.

Here’s what he has to say.

What is your job role?

My role is general manager.

What is it like working for Amazonia and The Lost valley?

It’s great fun, we have lots of different types of customers use the pay and golf and they are always great fun to chat too, I’ve got a 3 and a 5-year-old of my own, so I completely understand that the adults bring their kids to burn off that extra energy and relax at the same time.

How long have you worked in this industry?

I’ve worked in leisure for 12 years now.

What is your typical day like?

Most days start the same way with H&S checks on the play equipment and the train, then it’s all about making sure the customers have a great time on their visit. I’m a big believer in getting to know our customers, so I spend as much time as possible chatting with them.

What is the most fun part of your job?

Working with my team. Leisure attracts a special type of person, so my team are very full of life and love having fun, which makes them a pleasure to work with and great at their jobs.

Is there anything you dislike?

No, I really enjoy it all!

Give us one fun fact about yourself?

I’m a keen runner and will hopefully be taking on the dragon back race next year. Its 315km over five days from the top to the bottom of wales, over mountains to raise awareness for people with Parkinson’s like my older brother.
