When it comes to getting a good cup of coffee, it’s nice to know your favourite drink is in safe hands, so we’re catching up with the lovely Tim – Store Manager at Starbucks to find out about life at the busy Market Place branch.
What is your job role?
Store Manager at Starbucks, Market Place.
What is it like working for Starbucks?
S: Working for Starbucks is brilliant! It can get a bit hectic, but I love it.
L: I absolutely love it…it’s not just coffee and cake! My job has provided me with so many opportunities and experiences outside of the normal coffee shop work! This year we’re going to Milan to see our new Starbucks Reserve Roastery and I’m super excited!
What is the most popular drink/cake amongst your customers?
S: Our toasted fruit bread is incredibly popular. Our customers love lots of different things, but you can’t go wrong with a latte!
L: Our most popular cake is most definitely our toasted fruit bread…it’s my favourite too! Though we have some delicious new products coming in November in time for the holidays, so maybe people will find a new favourite! I think our customers like to change their favourites. Sure, you get some who always have the same thing, but we have so many options and new things for people to try, a lot of people like to get something new regularly!
How long have you worked in this industry? I’ve been with Starbucks for 8 years as of November 2018, but I’ve worked in coffee shops for almost 18 years now!
What are you responsible for?
I’m personally responsible for the general day to day running of the store. I imagine it’s much like many retail jobs; orders, serving customers, looking after the team etc. Thankfully I have the most amazing team who take on a lot of responsibility themselves which lets me spend more time with the customers, which is where I like to be the most!
What is your typical day like?
I don’t think there is a typical day. Well…there’s always lots of coffee to make that’s for sure!
What is the most fun part of your job?
Definitely spending time getting to know the customers! I’m sure that sounds cheesy but I just love to talk!
Is there anything you dislike?
I don’t think there’s anything I really dislike…maybe brushing floors at the end of a busy shift. I’ll happily do the mopping though; so I think that’s a fair exchange!
What is your favourite drink?
S: I’ve got to admit; I’m not as adventurous as most of our customers. I tend to have a cup of tea!
L: Generally; I like a nice cup of tea, but I do love our Christmas drinks as well. We’ve got the most delicious sounding new hot chocolate coming out soon that I can’t wait to try!
Will there be any offers or promotions available in the coming weeks?
Ooh, we’ve got lots going on over the next few weeks all the way up to Christmas! We’ve got some BOGOF offers going on with Market Place’s Pumpkin Giveaway in the Market Hall, a very special limited edition Halloween Frappuccino coming, our holiday drinks start on November 1st (but if you have a Starbucks card you can get one from 25th October), on the 26th October you can have a free tall drink if you buy any bag of coffee or instant and a big merchandise sale on the Black Friday weekend! We’ll also be providing free drinks for official poppy sellers in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday!
What do you love about Bolton / what makes Market Place special?
I’m relatively new to Bolton; so I don’t know everything about the town yet, but the one thing that has really struck me about it is its people. It’s such a friendly and welcoming place and I think Market Place really shows off the best of Bolton!
