Water pipe burst causes disruption at Market Place

A water pipe burst overnight in the Market Place, Bolton, has caused some flooding in the shopping centre.

The incident, which happened at 4.30am on Sunday 4th March is believed to have been caused by the recent freezing temperatures, led to water cascading from the plant room above the rear of the Neo Arts unit.

Units affected included New Look (Women), the newly reopened Bank restaurant in The Vaults and the Lost Valley adventure golf in next door’s children’s adventure area Amazonia.  Please note Amazonia is open as normal. New Look, the Bank and the the mini golf were closed on Sunday 4th, and will be until further notice whilst clean-up operations are carried out.

The escalators leading down to The Vaults were also taken out of operation temporarily. The burst occurred in a four inch water main and was spotted by security personnel.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, centre manager, said:

“We apologise to customers for any inconvenience as a result of this incident which was completely beyond our control. We are working hard to clean up the affected units so they can be back up and running as soon as possibly. In the meantime, the remainder of the centre, including the cinema and other units in The Vaults,  is open for business as usual.”
